What We Provide
A Bit About Us
Our Story
40+ years of dedication and hard work are evidenced by this stable and successful trucking company. Thomas Trucking began in the basement of Cal and Christine Thomas’ home in 1972, with a lease to Casket Distributors, hauling “underground furniture”. Within 3 years, Cal and Christine had purchased 7 tractors and had expanded to haul dry and refrigerated freight. In 1984, Thomas acquired our own Authority and moved to the present location on Seymour Avenue in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cal made sure the trucks were in top shape by working on them at night, along with mechanic Carl Allen, after he worked a full day at P&G. Christine kept the operations going during the day, performing dispatch and all other office functions.
In 1987, son Mark began working in the garage and drove for the company for two years, before he came “inside” to work dispatch. In 1989, daughter Kathy began to assume more responsibility for the administrative side of the business. By this time, Thomas had about 30 company trucks and 50 reefer trailers, plus 40 owner operators. It also built a 3 bay garage for the on-site repair and maintenance of the tractors & trailers. By 2000, Thomas Trucking was running over 100 trucks and had about 35 company and 70 owner operators. It also purchased an additional 7 acres to expand parking and office space to a total of 12 acres. Cal and Christine retired from the business in 2009. But still maintain an active presence in the business today: Mark along with mechanic Mitch Davis wheels and deals on everything, including light bulbs, from their suppliers. We buy in bulk and keeps supplies on hand to avoid buying on the road, where the prices are often double. Christine and Kathy always have kept an eye on the finances.
At the present time Thomas runs 15-20 trucks; the company owns about 20 tractors, 35 trailers and has 6 Owner Operators. Trucks are full and drivers are busy. Due to the economy, the company has recently restructured. We have lowered our fleet to the above number of power units and Owner Operators. We have “retired” our older units, as repairs and the cost of everything has increased. We currently have one full-time mechanic and 2 office/dispatch personnel keep up with the demands of our customers. Thomas Trucking knows how to protect its assets and future with solid, conservative business practices. With over 50 years of marriage and 43 years working at least two jobs a day for both Cal and Christine, commitment and hard work are the example and the standard for Mark, Kathy, and the dedicated employees and drivers at Thomas Trucking, Inc.
